Chochukmo

I first met them when I was filming Free Love’s trip to Manila, Philippines. It is hard not to notice the band as all of them donned pink tees.

On and off stage, they are bunch of happy people, easy to talk to, entertaining and most of the time, they are drunk. Unlike many of rock bands coming from Hong Kong, most of their songs (or maybe all) are in English.

Yes, their music rings in my head until today (and Yap of Sforzando! got a soft spot for their bassist... mwahahaha). Do check out their MySpace, memorize any of their songs that you can and sing along when they are going to show us Malaysians how to rock, Hong Kong style.

Friends, wake up early morning tomorrow and head to KL Sentral, purchase a return ticket to Seremban and watch Chochukmo rocking the stage together with old punks Carburetor Dung and Second Combat, indie dudes Pesawat, Khottal, Laila and few others.

If you can’t make it tomorrow, do come to Cloth & Clef on Sunday night as they will be performing together with Sforzando! and Akta Angkasa.

Music

I have always wanted to compose music score for my visual narratives (TV shows, short video, whatever, etc). I was never a fan of using published music, drag and drop method.

Malaysian films suck at that too. Malay movies especially, always use some cheesy and cheap music for the background. Meanwhile B-grade television shows will use some famous pop songs to make their boring story, well, entertaining.

Few weeks ago, my boss recruited a sound guy to set up a music department. With only a Strat, an old Korg keyboard and Garageband, he has been making music for another television show the company that I am working for is producing.

With the audio booth just next to my room, I am making regular return trips hoping to learn more. It is always good to be hungry for knowledge.

Walking from SS4D to the train station...

...with this girl. She works for Cinema Online.

Maybe it is time for new direction

I have been working even when I am still studying. Juggling classes, jobs and social activities used to be my daily routine.

Last October I started working with a small but succesful(?) production house. Under the guidance of my mentors, I developed my skills and my portfolio in just months. I did projects for regional TV stations, live music show, a documentary sponsored by a huge beer company, documentary/ live music show for one of the greatest local bands in an awesome place ever and few others.

Aku berani cakap yang kat KL ni, tak ramai budak umur aku yang dah banyak buat kerja yang boleh kira hebat ah.

Even after they left, I continue developing my skils by myself. I produced several pilot episodes, organised a month long event, and some shitty work... all by myself.

Now that I got a better offer, I might consider of grabbing it. Maybe it is time for new direction.
